Your unique set of skills, talents, and experience is exactly the expertise that the Center needs to make a real difference in our community. Whether your interest is in teaching a course, applying your skills behind the scenes managing our programs, or directly reaching out to serve others, there is a place waiting for you at The Shepherd’s Center. We know how important your time is, and we value it. We’ll work with you to find a schedule that fits your life and allows you the flexibility that you need, while offering you a meaningful way to get involved. Together, we make an impact on some of the most important (and often forgotten) social issues, like inadequate transportation for seniors.
Each individual who offers his or her talents, time, and heart to The Shepherd’s Center brings a unique perspective and experience. We are an organization made up almost entirely of volunteers. To work with us is to contribute to who and what we are. Your lifetime of experience is precisely the talent that we need! Winston Churchill said it best: “We make a living by what we get…we make a life by what we give.” Please consider volunteering with us!
Please take a look at the brief descriptions below which will give you a sense of what is needed, and what you might like to discuss with us further.
Services for Seniors
Driver: Provide round-trip transportation to medical appointments between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Volunteer on your own schedule. Choose when, where and who you will drive. Select assignments using our online Ride Scheduling program. It is SO easy to fit volunteering into your active lives. Our clients are able-bodied, interesting, cheerful folks who can get around on their own. They just don’t drive anymore, and are so appreciative of the friendly assistance given to them. Grocery Shopping: Either go shopping for those unable to shop for themselves or take an individual to the grocery store.
