Programs

Open University (OU) is the popular lifelong learning program of The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond. Instructors are volunteers recruited from Richmond’s university and professional communities. Eight-week sessions are offered during the fall, winter and spring. The cost is $45 per session for Shepherd’s Center members and $75 per session for non-members. Due to the pandemic, OU is entirely online via Zoom until further notice. A TSCOR Covid-19 Task Force continues to monitor all factors associated with safely providing programs. Updates are announced as plans develop. Sign up to receive News & Updates at the bottom of this page. See the fall 2020 Open University schedule here. Register early! Payment needs to be received by Wednesday the week before classes and speakers are scheduled. Emails are sent every Sunday evening with Zoom links for classes and speakers in the coming week. Register and pay online here. To pay by mail: print the schedule and complete the registration form. Make check payable to The Shepherd’s Center and mail to: The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond, 3111 Northside Ave, #400, Richmond, VA 23228.
Lunch & Life – a four-week lecture series held in the fall, winter and spring – is free and open to the public. Normally presented in partnership with St. Mary Catholic Church, Lunch & Life has been moved online via Zoom for the fall 2020 session. And it’s still free, but you must register to receive the Zoom link. If you are a member of TSCOR, or have registered for Open University, you do not need to register separately for Lunch & Life as these Zoom links will be sent to you automatically. However, if you are not a member or a student and are only interested in signing up for Lunch & Life, you do need to register. See the fall 2020 Lunch & Life schedule here. Register for Lunch & Life here.
Travel Local one-day trips and overnight tours are offered to Shepherd’s Center members as well as the general public. Past participants have enjoyed plays at Wolf Trap, sight-seeing in New Bern, and touring historic Richmond. Travel is temporarily suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic and will resume as soon as it is safe to do so. A TSCOR Covid-19 Task Force continues to monitor all factors associated with safely providing programs. Updates are announced as plans develop.
